A criminal case is usually shaped in its first few hours. The advice you receive before and during a police interview can affect everything that follows.
LP Evans defends people at every stage of a criminal case: the police station, the charging decision, the Magistrates’ Court, the Crown Court and appeal. Most of what decides an outcome happens early, so we are involved from the first call.
Our solicitors attend interviews, take your instructions in private, ask the police for disclosure and instruct the right counsel. We act for people accused of the most serious offences, and for people facing a single allegation that could still change their life.

Selected results
- R v M (Canterbury Crown Court)CPS discontinue money laundering prosecution against an LP Evans client. Despite an investigation lasting well over a year, the case was discontinued after solicitors made an application to the court for undisclosed evidence.
- R v LCpl A (Catterick Court Martial Centre)LP Evans successfully represented a Lance Corporal acquitted of GBH. Defence team led by Yaqub and Zoe. The case had been hanging over our client for two years; the acquittal allowed him to continue his career.
- R v Q (Winchester Crown Court)LP Evans were instructed by six of seven defendants in an investigation into a significant number of domestic burglaries across Hampshire and neighbouring counties since 2019, all allegedly committed by a single gang. Counsel argued that the prosecution had failed in its duty to disclose highly relevant cell-site evidence going to the heart of the case. Following lengthy legal argument at trial, the Crown were forced to discontinue against our client and all other defendants.
Taken from matters the firm has published. Every case turns on its own facts and past results are not a guarantee of any particular outcome.
Questions people ask
Do I have to attend a voluntary interview?
You are not obliged to attend, but the police may then decide to arrest you. Take advice before deciding.
Can I choose my own solicitor at the police station?
Yes. You can ask for a solicitor of your choice, and advice at the station is free whatever your means.
What if I am released without charge?
You may be released under investigation or on bail while the police decide. We advise on both.
How is the case paid for?
Police station advice is free. After that we hold a Legal Aid Agency contract for criminal cases and also act privately.
